Map of Sardinia
Planning a trip to Italy on the Internet could be quite challenging, especially if you don’t know to place you’re going to and if you’re looking for many hotels or bed and breakfast at once. One problem can be the bad quality of web sites those structures have got (especially true for little bed and breakfasts and farm houses), and another one can be those portals, full of advertising but really very unuseful when it comes to chose something for your stay. On the other hand, many hoteliers or owners, they use the Internet very seldom and chances are that you need to contact them by phone to get your reservation done.
Ferryboat tickets to Sardinia
Actually we found instead quite easier to buy tickets for the ferryboat. We took those from Fiumicino (Rome) to Olbia and we bought them online on the Tirrenia website. Great was the possibility to print the ticket directly. We spent about 110 euro for 2 tickets.
Local transportation
Initially we booked a flight to Alghero, and therefore we thought to rent a car directly at the airport. But since we changed our plans and decided to move by ferry, we changed also our reservation to another car rental station in Olbia. That was quite easy to do.
In about 4 hours we’ll go to Olbia from Fiumicino, and there we’ll get our car, to get wherever we would like to go. Sardinia is not that big, so wherever you rent your car is fine. In about 3 hours or so you can easily reach the other end of the island.
Le tappe del viaggio
We divided the west coast of Sardinia in 4 parts, where we’re going to stay 2 days each.
First stop will be the Bosa area, where we booked a couple nights in Tresnuraghes at the farm house S’Ortu e su Riu. The trip from Olbia will be about 130km.
Second stop will be the Cabras area, near Oristano. There we booked at La Locanda.
Third stop will be Portoscuso, from where we could easily reach San Pietro and Sant’Antioco islands. We’ll stay at the B&B Sa Caletta.
Last stop will be Stintino very close to the natural park of Asinara. There we’ll stay at the B&B Il Porto Vecchio.
Booking those places hasn’t been that easy, none of them shows real time availability for rooms and none actually can be booked directly online. In many cases they wanted us to down pay a night by wire transfer (luckily we transfered that money online… at least).
Here we go then. Hope to write the rest of the story when we’re back!
